XP is the OS that chased me away from Windows, because it was so horrendously bad! I used Linux as my primary OS for more than a decade before getting an Ultrabook that ran on Windows 8.1, which was also pretty bad, but when I upgraded it to Windows 10 (for free), it ran so much better it was like a new computer.

The general rule is you need a system that is 10X faster than the one you are emulating, and when comparing an x86 PC to a Pi that usually isn't the case (it's the opposite in most cases).

I think a better solution would be more of a "VM" type solution - like you get when you run WIndows under a VM under regular (x86) Linux. Wine is one of those things that is amazing that it works at all - and it does actually work pretty well (I've used it a lot in the distant past), but it doesn't work with all Windows software, and when you hit a wall, you hit it hard. Note, BTW, that many of the "solutions" end up depending on Wine. So, the bottom line is: What is the best way? I've seen lots of threads over the years on this topic - they all seem to work to varying degrees (not that I've actually tried any of them).
